Architonic x Archdaily: Presenting the world’s largest online architecture & design community

Products database Architonic has acquired archdaily.com – the leading architecture news platform globally – with an ambitious plan for growth, innovation and better service.

The two sites will continue to operate as separate platforms, and respective co-founders of Archdaily and Architonic, David Basulto and Tobias Lutz, will continue in their roles as managing directors.

Ranked by Alexa in the world's top 1,000 most-visited websites, and with more than 600,000 daily readers, archdaily.com is the world’s largest architectural platform, and an ideal sister platform for architonic.com, both sharing the same DNA— ‘Founded by architects for architects.’

Based in Zurich and founded in 2003 by architects Tobias Lutz and Nils Becker, Architonic maintains a list of around 400,000 furniture, lighting and other products. In 2015, it was acquired by the NZZ Media Group as part of its digital growth strategy.

Meanwhile, Archdaily founder David Basulto started his site in 2008 as a publication that presented novelties in local architecture trends in Chile. Today, the platform has regional websites in English (Archdaily), Spanish (Plataforma Arquitectura, Archdaily México, Archdaily Colombia, and Archdaily Perú), Portuguese (Archdaily Brasil), and Chinese (Archdaily China).

Together, Archdaily and Architonic will achieve over 180 million visits a year— that’s over 30 times (!) the number of architects and interior designers worldwide.

The Challenges Ahead

“As our industry is on the verge of a rapid digital transformation, it is our responsibility to understand how technology will integrate inspiration, product sourcing, project delivery, construction and even the management of the life cycle of buildings, enabling architects to do more and better, in an efficient and sustainable way, to face the big challenges ahead,” said Archdaily founder and director David Basulto.

Architonic CEO Stephan Bachmann continues, “Today, as the world faces an explosive exponential growth of urbanization and in the middle of the biggest crisis of modern times, our profession is more important than ever. As the architecture industry is on the verge of a rapid digitalization process, we have the unique opportunity to provide platforms for sharing, collaboration, integration, transparency and diversity, to have a positive and active role shaping its future.”

Bachmann adds, “Our coming together as one international organization means we can bundle our joint expertise and experience, and leverage it to develop and grow further our two sister platforms individually.”

In a crowded field of competing online service providers, Archdaily and Architonic provide stakeholders in the architecture industry with the most relevant and best-performing platforms on which to present their projects, products, brands and competences to their target groups (excerpt from Architonic’s press release).
