The newest gourmet food market to arrive in Bogotá

In a nod to the ever-growing gourmet market trend epitomized by Madrid’s Mercado San Miguel or London’s Borough Market, Boho Food Market opened its doors in the Bogotá neighborhood of Usaquén. Presenting a model developed under the creative economy– a movement that encourages the trade of creative and cultural goods and services– Boho Food Market launched in September with a proposal that has already made a dent in Bogota’s gastronomic and cultural scene.
The monumental space inside Usaquén Plaza was designed by art historian Laura Lombardi and architect-designer Sylvie Delesmontey, who focused on redefining the marketplace concept for Colombians while maintaining a connection to traditional street markets. Avoiding any resemblance to the supermarket aisle, Boho’s design focuses on creating an open area featuring distinct food sections that allow for a direct exchange between vendors and customers, cutting out the middleman in favor of supporting small to medium producers. This also encourages a return to nature, with dozens of carefully selected local farmers and chefs offering their products at accessible prices.
With 4,000 square meters of space that includes an open marketplace and two more floors of carefully selected dining –you’ll find anything from Colombian, Asian, Italian, Mexican, and vegan food to rotisserie, hamburgers, dessert, gelato, and even a cheese and wine bar– the initiative promotes quality, fresh food and supports emerging chefs, transforming the Bogotá food experience from a stale transaction to an immersive, didactic experience.
