Colombian Contemporary Design showing at NYC Design Week
Colombian Contemporary Design returns to New York Design Week’s WantedDesign fair for the second year in a row with a selection curated by the organizers of Colombia’s Medellín Design Week. This year’s May Day Exhibition features a group of 10 Colombian design studios from all around the country that represent a variety of techniques and products, showcasing Colombia’s versatile design.
Following Milan’s enormously popular Salone del Mobile on the world design calendar, New York Design Week (May 11-23) is a vibrant week-long festival showcasing the best of the American creative scene. Taking place in tandem with the city’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair and in venues popping up from Brooklyn to Manhattan, this year has seen a boost in international participation with designer collaborations and fairs like WantedDesign dedicated to promoting international design.
Representing Colombian design at WantedDesign this year are studios Andrés Hincapie Arquitectos, Fango Studio, Pablo Fog, Jose Dueñas, Nativo Mobiliario, ODA Jewelry, Tigre de Salon, TuTaller Design, Tucurinca, and Unodot.
The first May Day Exhibition began in 2016 when Medellín Design Week director David Del Valle wanted to present the different materials, processes, concepts and advances produced by the Colombian design industry, leading to the launch of the group’s first New York Design Week exhibition in 2017 at the WantedDesign Brooklyn event.
May Day Exhibition: Colombian Contemporary Design opens tomorrow at the iconic Terminal Stores building in Manhattan. Registration is open and can be done here. event.wanteddesignnyc.com
